Snapshots of our sunkissed desert dreams

Snapshots of our sunkissed desert dreams

By on January 14th, 2012

We just left, but we’re already pining for the Sonoran Desert — and Four Seasons Resort Scottsdale at Troon North. There’s something about the wide-open skies, the quality of the light and the gentle evenings, lit by moon and stars, that feels like magic. The best way to explore it is on foot, and leisurely. That way, you start to spot all the little things, just like you did when you were a kid—and your kids will do now: a tiny lizard darting behind a rock, a cactus that looks just like a fat pin cushion, a stealthy coyote stealing by. There’s a sense of place here that’s brashly original; somehow cliché and delightfully unexpected at the same time. It gets under your skin and stays with you—like the dusty-rose colored, sandy earth still stuck to the bottom of our hiking boots. A little memento.

In the middle of a cold Canadian winter, it’s easy to forget that summer can be just a short flight away; thanks for the tempting reminder!
