My 12-month-old daughter Brooklyn never stops moving. From the moment she wakes at 6:30 am until the time we put her down to bed at 7 pm, we are going full throttle. So now, the perks of taking a holiday are always carefully weighed against the effort required to get there, and the amount of work it will be once we’ve arrived.
Staying at British Columbia, Canada’s beautiful Four Seasons Hotel Vancouver pretty much guarantees that all of the creature comforts weary parents are in desperate need of will be well taken care of.
Our sprawling suite was baby-proofed, which gave my little crawler almost 900 square feet of new territory to safely explore. My packing list was minimized since all of the baby necessities (crib, highchair, diaper garbage, toiletries, bottle warmer) were provided.
The indoor-outdoor heated swimming pool is open year-round and was perfect for tiring out our little clown fish.
You can order from the hotel’s signature YEW Restaurant in-suite, which allowed us to breathe easy when Brooklyn “sang” at the top of her lungs during dinner.
Evening massages are available in the spa’s new RedCedar room, and my husband and I enjoyed some pampering after Brooklyn went to sleep.
When you’re traveling with little ones time becomes exceedingly precious. After dressing, napping, feeding, diaper bag packing and the bedtime routine, there’s not that much time left in the day for exploring. This means that the location of your hotel is critical.
Four Seasons, attached to Vancouver’s premier indoor mall Pacific Centre, is in the heart of the city—and a short stroller ride away from many of the city’s family-friendly attractions.
Vancouver’s famous 14-mi (22-km) seawall in Stanley Park is a must-do for families. Rent a bike, with trailer for the little one, and simply cruise your way through some of Vancouver’s rainforest scenery. Playgrounds, waterparks, pools and beaches are also easily accessed along the seawall loop route.
If you prefer to walk the seawall and want to visit Granville Island Public Market—one of our favorite places in Vancouver—False Creek Ferries provides a convenient and fun shuttle service: a quick jaunt across from Yaletown to False Creek.

Finding a more upscale kid-friendly restaurant can pose a challenge. Our Brooklyn-approved spot for brunch or lunch in Vancouver is the San Francisco-grill-style Joe Fortes Seafood and Chophouse, within walking distance of the hotel and famed for its oyster bar.
We can’t wait to return to Four Seasons Hotel Vancouver when Brooklyn is a little older and can try the Kids in the City program (June 22 to Sept. 8). The hotel welcomes kids five to 12 with an in-room treat from the chef and the Kids’ Activity Concierge puts on a daily poolside activity. The Playzone Game Room, fully equipped with crawling tunnels, board games and DVD’s, is open throughout the summer for all children.
