School outside the classroom — the world’s best dinosaur museums. Your picks?

There are just certain things that always appeal to kids, and it seems like they have for eons. Mac ‘n cheese. Curious George. Rubber Ducky. Popsicles in summer. And dinosaurs.

An excursion to say — The Field Museum in Chicago or China’s Zigong Dinosaur Museum — for a personal inspection of Tyrannosaurus rex’s bicuspids or a view of a gargantuan flying Pterodactyl overhead is fun and educational. It’s a great staple in the family-travel repertoire. Yes, it’s back-to-school time, but who says all the learning has to happen in the classroom?

New York’s American Museum of Natural History is currently showing a special exhibition (til January 2012) of “The World’s Largest Dinosaurs.” The curator says even just the volume of what the creatures ate in one single day will blow your mind.

With a nod to the extincts, FourSeasonsMagazine.com put together a short list of some of our favourite places in the world to see them. Read more.

Where’s your favourite dinosaur museum? Send us your comments to family@fourseasons.com or post on our Facebook page.

I saw that dinosaur exhibit in NYC and it’s AMAZING. Also of note is the Los Angeles Museum of Natural History. They have 3 Tyrannosaurus Rex’s, usually a kid favorite. One is a baby, one mid sized and the other enormous. It’s really cool to see them all next to each other.
